I was a camper, waiter and counselor at Delawaxen from 1953 to 1962. I have many camp photos.

I was a camper from 1954 (in Bambi Hall) through 1959. So many great memories … although Hurricane Carol (the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history at the time) at the very end of camp in 1954 is not one of my favorite memories. I was 5 years old in 1954, but the memory of being evacuated to a shelter and returning to camp the next day to see animals floating in the pool is very vivid.

That was 1955. I was there. Age 8.

…”devastating flood, caused by Hurricane Diane’s march up the East Coast on Aug. 19 and 20, 1955.”

Something I will never forget. We were evacuated and the next day the camp flooded.
That was the end of camp for the summer. I don’t understand that you went back there.

I was a camper in the early part of the 1950’s.
I can’t believe my parents sent me there for an entire summer (8 weeks w/ one parents’
visit at the end of July).

I was too young to be away from home and was really homesick. (I was approximately 8-yrs-old).

I loved the swimming , volleyball and color war. —— I was in a cabin with kids my age and one counselor, Judy Lange??

I also liked boating in the river and turning our boats over, which annoyed the counselors.

I went back the next summer but got so homesick that my parents had to take me home at visitation. —— That was end of my sleep away camp experience . I was sufficiently traumatized.
